On Thursday, March 22nd we had our 2nd social of the year, which was a huge success. CoWork Jax sponsored this event at their offices downtown at 5 West Forsyth Steet on the second floor. The food and spirits were delicious and the networking couldn't have been better. Members had a great time catching up and enjoying the great office spaces of CoWork Jax.
NAIOP of Northeast Florida, the region’s commercial real estate authority and trade association, recently announced its annual award winners at the organization’s “Annual Awards & Celebration 2012.” Hosted at the Times-Union Center for Performing Arts, the event drew approximately 200 guests who enjoyed a cocktail reception, award presentation and dinner reception.
“The annual awards celebration is a time to honor the best of the best in commercial real estate around Northeast Florida,” said Gordon Steadman, 2012 NAIOP of Northeast Florida Chapter president. “This year, we had an exceptional group of talented professionals who deserved recognition among their peers for their work in the industry.”

The hottest scene to be seen at this week was hands down EverBank Field for the big Monday Night Football game.
Fans were out in full force tailgating before the game. Despite the Jacksonville Jaguars ’ loss to the San Diego Chargers , last week’s news of the team’s sale to Shahid Khan and the replacement of Coach Jack Del Rio by Mel Tucker as interim head coach added a sense of hope and excitement to the evening. Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel Vinyard said Friday his priorities are to ensure greater regulatory certainty and consistency.
He also said he wants to “get the water right” in both quantity and quality and to increase access to state parks.
Vinyard, who has been on the job about 10 months, spoke to the NAIOP Northeast Florida Chapter meeting. He said that his “hair has been on fire since day one,” but he’s learned a lot since his appointment.
“I’m a firm believer that environmental protection and growth go hand in hand,” he told almost 80 members of the area commercial real estate trade association in attendance.
Vinyard is a former BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards executive and a former attorney and shareholder with Jacksonville-based Smith, Hulsey & Busey.
Business owners seeking environmental permits often face different restrictions and methods to acquire them from water management districts across the state, he said. The annual tournament, presented by Midtown Centre, brought together the area’s brokers and commercial real estate professionals for a competitive day of golfing, drawings and good will. Landon Gentry, Long Drive Champion and North Florida resident, hosted the NAIOP/Liberty Property Trust Charity Long Drive to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

NAIOP of Northeast Florida recently supported local nonprofit daniel with a “Back to School Backpack and School Supply Drive.” NAIOP and its members donated backpacks filled with school supplies including folders, rulers, calculators, crayons, markers, three-ring binders and paper to the organization and the children it serves.
“Our members stepped up to the plate for this drive by donating school supplies and backpacks to children on the First Coast who desperately needed them,” said Julie Bohn, 2011 NAIOP of Northeast Florida Charity Chair. “Daniel is an organization we support throughout the year, and this was another chance for NAIOP to assist a nonprofit that truly makes a different in our community.” Learn More...
